Kemera bridge – Karadja dere river

The old bridge crosses Sarnena river (a tributary to Dospat river known also as Karadja dere) just besides the main road connecting the towns of Dospat and Devin – near the junction to Zmeitza village. The bridge is bi-vaulted and historical data reveal that it was part of the route of the Roman road going through the Rhodopes and linking Philipopolis (nowadays the city of Plovdiv) with Nikopolis-ad-Nestum (close to Garmen village, 7 km east of Gotze Delchev city in Southwestern Bulgaria).

Besides the bridge a rest spot with shelter and barbeque is built. Just before the bridge Sarnena river spreads wider and forms a small lake, which is a popular as a fishing spot.
